Martina Maffini Costanera Sur
The Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve is a natural park in the downtown area of Buenos Aires. During the military dictatorship in the 1970s, a part of the city was destroyed to build a city highway. The rubbish and waste material were dumped into the La Plata river, in accordance with the policy of the time: “to gain ground on the river.” Spontanous natural plant succession took place and many ecosystems developped. Among the waste were remains of concrete and iron but also seeds of the now twenty years old plants and trees in this ecological reserve.
It is difficult to define the landscape, as it is an “inbetween-land”, neither nature nor culture.
