This is a selection of pictures from the project ‘Generations’ by the English photographer Julian Germain.

The portraits offer a historical view of a particular genealogy at a precise moment in time, with each person representing a single generation in the lineage of their family. They are chronologically presented from oldest to youngest or vice versa. All phases of life are here, from newborns to the most elderly.

The portraits reflect upon the past, present and even the future. They are about our existence; about life and death and everything in between – time, heritage, family. Our own place in the world.
