William Rugen  Western Dioramas

-

“This project is a snapshot of how Americans often view of “The West” as being transformable, disposable, and unforgettable.  I am interested in the way the present has run over the past and the places where the open meets the inhabited and how both often are worse for the meeting.

It is also important to me how elements inhabit the space within the frame.  Every object has its own space and looks as if it has been placed there like objects in a diorama at a museum.  Each picture a momentary still life showing the continuing history of the West.”
