Contemporary art and the Historial’s First World War collections

The Historial de la Grande Guerre in Péronne and the Espace culturel François Mitterrand in Beauvais, both located in a region deeply marked by war, are pleased to present ‘Phantoms and Nightmares’, an exhibition of contemporary art in dialogue with the Historial’s First World War collections. Juxtaposed with objects from the Great War, contemporary photographs, installations and videos evoke the ideas of ghosts, dreams and agonies as resurgences of the traumas of war.

International contemporary artists include: Lida Abdul, Mehdi Abbioui, Rémy Artiges, Pascal Bernier, Carole Chebron, Jan Fabre, Laurent Fievet, Robin Friend, Benjamin Girard, Doris Kloster, Ange Leccia, Tina Merandon, Laurent Pernot, Dominique Petitgand, Françoise Petrovitch, Jan Saudek, Nicolas Simarik, Natasha Stellmach, Ingrid Wildi.

Exhibiton: “New Works” by Friederike von Rauch

Friederike von Rauch is having her new works exhibited in Berlin until april 16, 2011. The exhibition “New Works” comprises of three work cycles: Ash (2010), Harpa (2010), and Transept (2009-2010).

The photographs, which are devoid of people, are reminiscent of abstract painting or bizarre still lifes and create an extraordinary atmosphere.

DJ and producer Marcel Dettmann has created a 34-minute long piece made up of minimalist sound samples inspired by von Rauch’s latest works: a carpet of sound for the exhibition.
